Family, Guardianship and Emergency Features Notice
Some Vilkax features involve other people, or are meant for the worst moments. This notice explains each one, what consent it needs, what we keep, and where its limits are. It forms part of the Terms of Service; the Privacy Policy has the full account of the data involved.
Read this first
Vilkax is not an emergency service. The panic alarm, the safe word and Leave Safely notify people you chose, through channels we do not control. They do not call the police, an ambulance or a crisis line, and they cannot promise that a message arrives, arrives in time, or is read. If you or someone else is in danger, call 112 anywhere in the European Union (911 in North America) before doing anything in the app.
KIN circles
A KIN circle is a small group, typically a family, whose members agree to share signals with each other: a warning when one of them is being targeted, and, if they choose, their live location.
- Joining is consent. A circle has no members who did not accept an invitation in the app, and every member can leave at any time.
- Location sharing is separate and per circle. Nobody's location is shared until they turn it on for that circle. You can share precise or approximate location, pause, or stop, and the change applies the next time anyone looks.
- What we store: latitude and longitude, accuracy, speed, heading, battery level and charging state, at most one ping every ten seconds, and an approximate city. Pings are deleted after 24 hours. There is no history beyond that, no public map and no discovery of circles.
- Who sees it: only the members of that circle, only while you share with it. Vilkax staff have no screen that shows a person's location.
- Children. A parent or guardian may create a circle for a child below the age of digital consent (14 in Lithuania and Spain) and consent on the child's behalf. A child who is old enough to consent decides for themselves.
- Adults. Adding an adult's location to a circle without their consent, or keeping it after they withdraw it, is a breach of the Acceptable Use Policy and may be a crime. If someone is pressuring you to share your location, you can pause sharing without the circle being told why, and you can write to legal@vilkax.com.
Guardianship
Guardianship lets a person you trust receive your protection alerts and help you when a scam is in progress, for example an elderly parent naming an adult child. The person being protected must accept Guardianship themselves in the app, and can revoke it at any time. A guardian receives alerts and risk summaries; a guardian does not receive message contents, credentials, vault contents or the ability to act in the protected person's account. If you hold legal authority over an adult (for example a court-appointed guardianship or a power of attorney), tell us at legal@vilkax.com and we will explain how to document it.
The safe word
You can set a private word or phrase. If someone contacts you claiming to be a family member, a bank or the police, asking for the word is a check on them. Vilkax stores the word in your account so it can be shown to you and your circle, never to anyone else, and never sends it in a message. A safe word is a tool for your judgement, not a proof: someone who knows it may still be an impostor, and someone who does not may simply have forgotten it.
The panic alarm and Leave Safely
The panic alarm sends an alert, with your location if you share it, to the contacts you chose, by push notification, email, Telegram or WhatsApp depending on what you set up. Leave Safely lets you set a check-in time and alerts your contacts if you do not confirm you are safe.
- We send the alert immediately. Whether it is delivered depends on the recipient's device, network and the messaging service; we cannot guarantee delivery or timing.
- The contacts you name are not Vilkax users unless they choose to be; we process their address or number only to deliver your alert, on the basis of your instruction, and we keep delivery receipts for 30 days.
- Do not rely on these features as the only way anyone would learn you are in danger.
Hearth
Hearth is a private journal with a companion that can respond, and a safety check that looks for signs that you may be at risk of harming yourself, so it can show you crisis-line numbers for your country. Because what you write can reveal your health and state of mind, Hearth is off until you give a separate, explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time in the Privacy Center; withdrawing it stops the processing.
- Entries are encrypted at rest. A redacted copy exists only so your data export is readable.
- We never use your entries to train models.
- The companion is an AI system. Its replies can be wrong or unhelpful, and it is not a therapist, a doctor or a crisis counsellor. The crisis resources it shows are provided by third parties; we check them regularly but do not run them.
- If you are thinking about harming yourself, contact a crisis line or the emergency services now. In Spain, 024 (Línea de atención a la conducta suicida) is free and available at all times; in Lithuania, 1809 (Vilties linija) or 112.
Alerts about other people
When Vilkax warns you that a message or a caller looks like fraud, that is a pattern match, not a finding that a named person has committed a crime. Verdicts are shown only to you (and, if you enabled it, your guardian or circle as a risk level without content), are never published, and can be wrong. Do not confront, accuse or publicly name someone on the strength of a verdict.
What we ask of you
- Tell the people you add to a circle, or name as contacts, what they will receive and why.
- Keep the app updated and its permissions enabled; a feature you disabled cannot protect you.
- Do not use any of these features to control or surveil another adult.
